in conversation: Alix Yang

Melbourne-based jewellery designer, Alix Yang launched in 2017 and speaks to a wide community of confident souls that celebrate their own unique style. Made with the highest quality standard, her label is built on an ethos that jewellery is the key to helping women feel most confident and turns ancient-heirloom designs into everyday must-haves for modern lifestyles - and modern women.

"In this fashion industry, there are just SO MANY beautiful women. But I believe what's inside is what defines a girl's true beauty."

On what and who ALIX YANG represents.

Being relevant is the driving philosophy of ALIX YANG design. To be able to connect with the culture and the wearers is the most rewarding thing for jewellery creation. I would say that ALIX YANG represents a girl who is very independent about her lifestyle as well as her fashion style. Jewellery is an everyday essential for her, and simple and yet timeless pieces are always what she's after.

The women who inspire her.

My grandma, she wears jewellery all the time. And she used to always tells me that jewellery is very important for a lady and it tells people who you are.

Her work soundtrack.

I listen to so many different genres of music, but when it comes to serious works I prefer Carpenters, Lisa Ono, Ray Charles (all the oldies but goodies).

"I always go to vintage markets to look for ideas. So much inspiration can be derived from old photography, vintage clothes and, of course, vintage jewellery."

Her favourite ALIX YANG piece.

The Sonia Earrings are my personal favourite, it is such a timeless piece that can go with any kind of styles for any occasions. I wear them to grocery shop during  the  day  and  then  wear  them  to  a  dinner  function  at  night. I can literally commit my whole life to this pair of earrings.

And her ideal Sunday.

Homemade brunch, afternoon sunbathing in the park with my baby and my dog, and a late-night movie with my husband.

Some of her favourite sources of inspiration.

Vintage! I always go to vintage markets to look for ideas. So much inspiration can be derived from old photography, vintage clothes and, of course, vintage jewellery. Travelling is a great source of inspiration as well, girls in different areas/countries  usually  have  very  different fashion  styles,  and  it  is  just fascinating to observe them.

And lastly, she thinks makes a woman beautiful.

Definitely confidence and kindness. In this fashion industry, there are just SO MANY beautiful women. But I believe what's inside is what defines a girl's true beauty. A confidence soul that believes in herself and her own independence, as well as a kind heart that treats everyone around her softly, makes the most attractive woman to me.
